Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: How to Setup and Use Baby Crying Detector in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Baby crying detector is one of accessibility features that is basically designed to help the hearing-impaired users or those with some hearing difficulties to easily know when their babies are crying. When this feature is enabled and your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge detects baby's crying, you'll be notified with visual cues, vibration and light.


Important:
  • Baby crying detector feature would work best when you place your phone within 1m from your baby in silent background noise.
  • Baby crying detector feature is intended to be used as a parenting aid and not as a medical device or a substitute for human care giving.
  • Make sure to not leave your baby in a home or place unattended while using this feature.


How to setup the baby crying detector feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. In any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap at the top right to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down to the Personal section and then tap Accessibility. FYI, if you have enabled the direct access feature, you can access accessibility menu via the direct access menu by pressing the Home key three times quickly.
  3. Tap Hearing.
  4. Tap Sound detectors.
  5. Slide the ON/OFF switch next to Baby crying detector to the right to enable this option.
  6. A Disclaimer window appears on the screen, scroll down the screen to review it. Tap Confirm to continue.
  7. A pop up window contains with some information about baby crying detector appears on the screen. Tap Enable to continue enabling baby crying detector.
  8. This icon will be displayed on the status bar as a sign that the baby crying detector is set up and ready to use. As a note, while the baby crying detector is on, you can't use the S Voice wake-up command, the voice search's "OK Google" and other apps/features that use the device's microphone(e.g., voice recorder app, voice dictating feature, etc.).


How to use the baby crying detector feature?
When this feature is enabled, your phone will notify you when it detects the sound of a baby's crying. See the following steps as the example of using this feature:
  1. When your phone detects that a baby is crying, your phone will vibrate and provide you a visual notification. Your phone will also flash the camera light if you enable the flash notification feature. If you have a Galaxy Gear smartwatch and have paired it with your phone, it'll also vibrate.
  2. Tap to disable baby crying detector and stop your phone from vibrating.
  3. Tap to re-enable and start using baby crying detector.
  4. If you'd like to view the log(date and time) of the alerts, you can view it in the Recent alerts section in the Sound detector menu.
