When the edge panels feature in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is enabled and the main screen is turned on, you can use the quick tools panel so you can act the edge screen on your phone as a ruler to measure the length of an object, as a compass to find the geographic cardinal directions in your current location, and as a torch to improve your visibility while you're in a dark or low-light environment.


How to enable the quick tools panel feature?
Assuming that the edge panels feature is on, you can enable the quick tools panel by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the center of the screen to open the edge screen panel.
  2. Tap at the bottom left corner of the screen to quickly go to the edge panels menu.
    FYI, if you access the edge panel from the lock screen and are using one of screen lock type with secure lock settings(PIN, password, fingerprints, pattern, or direction lock), you have to perform your current screen lock before you can access the edge panels menu.
  3. If needed, swipe the panels list to the left or right to find the Quick tools panel and then check the box above it to enable it.
  4. The quick tools panel has been enabled.


How to use the quick tools panel feature?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the center of the screen to open the edge panel.
  2. If the edge panel doesn't display the quick tools panel, swipe the edge screen to the right or left until you find it. This panel displays compass as the default function.
  3. To use your phone as a compass, place your phone flat on your palm and it will show you the cardinal directions as well as the latitude and longitude of your current location. To make this function works, make sure you have an Internet connection and the location feature is enabled. If it doesn't work normally, you may need to calibrate it before you use it by tapping Calibrate and then move your phone in a figure of 8 as shown in your phone's screen.
  4. To use your phone as a torch, do as follows:
    • Tap in the quick tools panel to use your phone as a torch.
    • Tap to turn on the torch.
    • Tap to get more brighter torch or tap to get more dimmer torch.
    • Tap to turn off the torch.
  5. To use your phone as a ruler, do as follows:
    • Tap in the panel to use your phone as a ruler.
    • By default, it uses cm as the unit of length. When needed, you can change it to inch by tapping .
    • Now, you can use the ruler to measure the length of an object.

When the edge panels feature in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is enabled, you can use the tasks edge panel to easily access specific app functions, e.g., take a self-portrait photo, create a new contact, start voice recording, etc., or to easily communicate with your favourite contacts, e.g., compose a new text message, make a call to specific contact, etc., from the edge screen while the main screen is turned on.


How to enable the tasks edge feature?
Assuming that the edge panels feature is on, you can enable the tasks edge panel by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the center of the screen to open the edge screen panel.
  2. Tap   at the bottom left corner of the screen to quickly go to the edge panels menu.

  3. If needed, swipe the panels list to the left or right to find the Tasks edge panel and then check the box above it to enable it.
  4. Tap to edit the tasks edge panel.
  5. To add the app functions to the tasks edge panel, tap the required tasks in the left frame. As the example, if you'd like to easily call to a contact you have added to the home screen from the edge screen, tap the contact icon in the shortcuts on Home screen section in the left frame. If needed, tap Add column at the top right so you can display up to 10 app functions on the tasks edge panel.
  6. To remove the app functions from the tasks edge panel, tap on the required app function in the right frame. As the example, if you'd like to remove the compose email function, tap on this app function in the right frame.


How to use the tasks edge feature?
As the example, we'll use this feature to easily take a selfie from the edge screen by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the center of the screen to open the edge panel.
  2. If the edge panel doesn't display the tasks edge panel, swipe the edge screen to the right or left until you find it.
  3. Tap the Take selfie icon on the tasks edge panel to quickly launch this function.

By default, the edge panel handle transparency level in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is set to 30%. However, you can adjust the transparency level of the edge panel handle to be more solid for easier access to the edge screen, to be more transparent if you'd like to have more transparent handle, or to be invisible if you'd like to stay using the edge panels feature but don't want your phone displays the handle on your screen.


How to adjust the transparency level of the edge panel handle?
Assuming that the edge panels feature is on, you can adjust the edge panel handle transparency level by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the center of the screen to open the edge panel.
  2. Tap at the bottom left corner of the screen to quickly go to the edge panels menu.

  4. Slide the handle transparency adjustment bar to the right for more transparent handle or to the left for more solid handle.
    FYI, if you set the transparency level to 100%, the edge panel handle will be invisible.
  5. The transparency of the edge panel handle has been adjusted.

By default, the edge panel handle size in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is set to medium. However, you can change the handle size to small size if you'd like the handle only takes small place of your screen or to large size for easier access to the edge panel.


How to change the size of the edge panel handle?
Assuming that the edge panels feature is on, you can change the size of the edge panel handle by using the following steps:
  1. While the main screen is turned on, drag the edge screen handle towards the centre of the screen to open the edge panel.
  2. Tap at the bottom left corner of the screen to quickly go to the edge panels menu.
